Gout arthritis undoubtedly must be considered an unpleasant problem, my own spouse is suffering from it for a long time now. It puts a lot of stress on me, observing a loved member of the family and friend suffer from extreme pain all too often. Pursuing a beneficial food regimen aimed at prevention and making use of good medication and therapy is in my opinion obligatory. Personally, I would highly recommend any one who is already noticing initial clues of hyperuricemia to by all means take this absolutely serious. You should see a health care professional as soon as possible and alter your eating routine to prevent the outbreak of the disease. It is anything but fun. Try to look for working treatment options and stay clear of purine rich meals, alcohol based drinks etc to take prophylactic measure.

i found an article/website discussing glucosamine and its impact on the cartilage matrix. apparently glucosamine impacts 30% of the cartilage (proteoglycans) -- the other 70% is collagen (type 2), which is effected by other dietary supplements.

I started suffering with my knees a few years ago, and a combination of some great exercises taught to me by a physiotherapist (which I continue to practise), and glucosamine gel applied daily have helped to just about eliminate the problems.

The exercises work on building up the muscles in the legs and around the knees to better support the knee and are easy to do around the house at any time. However, when I went to the doctor and told her that glucosamine was also helping greatly, she just laughed and said if I wanted to waste my money that was my business. Such a shame the medical profession still has these very blinkered views!! Good luck with it Lesley - your knees will thank you for it. x
